Istanbul Cultural Complex

Public

2024

This is a competition project that addresses the concepts of culture and art, indispensable elements that exist and evolve at the same pace as the rapidly changing world. Located at a crucial point in Istanbul, the design concept of the project was based on the principle of allowing the functional characteristics of the designed structure to be interpreted through its form, emphasizing an inviting and effective cultural/artistic hub. This "functional emphasis" remains important at every level the building touches. The goal in the building's creation was to blend the functions in the program with the site data to create a memorable form. The mass forming the building's iconic form is positioned at the highest point on the site, ensuring its visibility from every point.

Due to its location on a major pedestrian route and high accessibility, the square is envisioned to be actively used for seasonal/variable activities such as themed festivals, mini-concerts, and street sports shows. The open amphitheater, which facilitates circulation between the floors, is envisioned to serve as a reception and entrance area for the press during events such as galas and award ceremonies. In addition, the Great Hall can be accessed from different levels by means of elevators and stairs from the parking lot and the pedestrian entrance at the square level, or via an open amphitheater extending from the square to the +26.50 level.
