Exen Office and Shopping Center

2015
Architectural projects develop a unique character based on the surrounding environment and topographical features of the project area. Exen is one such example with its building design. The most important parameters shaping the project are the elevation difference between the east-west axis and its proximity to a busy traffic axis. Establishing a strong relationship with the main road axes and making the slope an input that supports the design constitutes the main criteria of the design. It was envisioned that the project would be shaped socio-culturally by its surrounding area, a densely populated residential zone, and would also benefit from the environment where both office and commercial units are located.
In the project design, the aim was to allow a smooth transition between office and commercial areas using the slope of the land. Two squares were created at the elevations of Mandıra Street and the Şile highway connection. These squares are connected by platforms that gradually spread across the elevations and serve the commercial units. These platforms are wide streets that connect to the city and give the commercial areas a bazaar character.
In the open commercial circulation areas, wind control was achieved by creating a set in the direction of the prevailing wind, and sun control was provided through placement and eaves. The eaves can be closed during winter conditions. The commercial units on the lower and upper plaza levels have large open usable areas. The aim was for smaller commercial units to benefit from the high circulation in these areas. The landscaped areas, inspired by the hills of Istanbul, consist of green hills of varying heights, and also include Judas trees, which grow in Istanbul and are one of its symbols.
